In the fresh air in the early morning, we walk through the renowned bamboo forest before the site gets busy. The beauty of the bamboo grove in the morning sun is exceptional. It is a famous temple which is the icon of Samurai culture. It once was a villa of retired shogun and transferred to a temple after his death. The main building covered with gold leaf itself is so beautiful which is next to none. In addition to that, the harmony with a pond and garden makes the scenery magnificent. When you come to Kyoto, you can’t miss this site.

This temple is rather small one for a temple in Kyoto, but its dry garden is well known as a representing Zen garden. Please sit on the veranda and gaze rocks and designed sand which lead you to a deep meditation as our ancestors experienced.
