El fenómeno de la luz y la sombra, digno testimonio del asombroso progreso de los mayas en la arquitectura y la astronomía es el fenómeno de la "luz y la sombra" que tiene lugar en la escalinata norte del Castillo durante el Equinoccio de Primavera donde se puede ver descender una serpiente por las escaleras El sol arroja siete triángulos de luz sobre la balaustrada del lado noreste del Castillo.
