Textiles and mysticism of Chiapas

Textiles and mysticism of Chiapas

This experience will bring you closer to the most important topics of THE HIGHLANDS OF CHIAPAS: mysticism, religion and customs of the indigenous people in SAN JUAN CHAMULA, the most visited town from San Cristobal and the beautiful textiles of SAN ANDRES LARRAINZAR. Amazing textiles from Larrainzar are common in the shops and markets of San Cristobal but few visitors come to this town located within a picturesque landscape in the mountains. During this tour you will get to know a little of the history and social context, approaching LIVING CULTURE in an interactive and respectful way. Our hallmark is interaction with local communities, as well as direct support for artisans.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: San Andres Larrainzar, San Andres Larrainzar, Southern Mexico

First we go to SAN ANDRES LARRAINZAR, a Tzotzil town located within a picturesque landscape of the mountains. During an hour of travel you will be able to admire the beauty of the exuberant vegetation and rural landscape.
In the town of Larrainzar we are going to visit the Parador Artesanal created by the artisans of the area. We are going to see them working on the backstrap loom, talk and learn a bit about their craft. Afterwards, we will visit a family in their workshop, where they invite us to have a typical breakfast. We will make a brief stop at the town square and its church. Larrainzar played a prominent role during the Zapatista uprising in 1994, since it was in the head of this municipality where the San Andrés Accords were signed, that is, the agreement established between the Mexican Government and the E.Z.L.N. to end the war.
