Tambopata Macaw Clay Lick is one of our exclusive tours, designed to offer you a broad insight into life and traditions in the Peruvian Amazon jungle.

The Tambopata National Reserve is home to several different species of plants, animals, and birds.

You will see most of them on this six-day tour with our local naturalist guide.

There are more than 650 varieties of birds and 1,500 species of butterflies in the Tambopata National Park.

You can do incredible activities such as: zip lining, kayaking and visit the monkey island.

Itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Paradise Amazon Lodge (Tambopata)

Stop At: Puerto Maldonado, Puerto Maldonado, Madre de Dios Region
We will transport you to Puerto Acosta at 08:00 AM. Here, we will hike for the 30-minute to our secluded Paradise Amazon Ecolodge.

Our team will help you with the registration procedure. After a brief stop here, we will begin our adventure through the Tambopata National Reserve.

CANOPY WALK:
From our hostel, we'll stroll 200 meters to the Canopy Tower (35 m high). Built at the base of a massive Lupuna tree. You will be able to see a variety of bird species here. Our local specialist will go through the area's vegetation and animals in great detail.

ZIP LINING:
We'll zip-line after the canopy stroll. Our local teacher will provide us with safety precautions before we go down a 190-meter-long slide. The monitors will greet us and assist us in crossing a modest 100m bridge.

Then we'll head back to the lodge. Our crew will prepare a traditional Amazonian lunch. After that, you can relax on the hammocks.

KAYAK:
We'll go kayaking at sunrise. Our crew will assist you in gathering all necessary safety equipment. To safeguard the safety of passengers, a security boat will accompany you. Then cool off in the Madre de Dios River.

MONKEY ISLAND:
We'll travel 15 minutes to Monkey Island after kayaking the Madre de Dos River. Among the animals you will see are capuchin monkeys, black monkeys (Cebus apella), and white monkeys (Cebus albifrons). Most of these breeds are naturally more friendly.

We will return to the resort around 4:30 p.m. after this fantastic excursion. We'll also see the sunset.

CAIMANO:
Following the viewing of the Amazon sunset, we will proceed on an alligator-spotting boat cruise. The lights emanating from their eyes will help you locate them at night. At 07:30 PM, we will return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.

Day 2: Lake Sandoval – Night Walk

Stop At: Tambopata National Reserve, Tambopata National Reserve, Madre de Dios Region
The birds will wake you up so you can have a great Amazonian breakfast. Our typical breakfast includes fresh fruit juice, a cup of freshly made Peruvian coffee, eggs, pancakes, fried plantains, and more.

We'll cross the river to the checkpoint at 9:30 a.m. We will be registered here before embarking on a three-kilometer hike to Lake Sandoval.

You will be able to see a variety of plants and creatures. You may also witness gigantic river otters and other wildlife.

A fantastic meal may be had on the Lake Sandoval. Then we'll row a boat to the lake's center to see more birds and creatures.

There are anhingas, cormorants, and hoatzins. We'll return to the resort after receiving a firsthand look at life on Lake Sandoval.

We will go on a stroll in the protected area beginning at 06:30 p.m. to view additional nocturnal wildlife. Our guide will go through them with you in great detail.

We will return to the lodge for dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Day 3: Native Family Visit – Sport Fishing 

Stop At: Lago Sandoval, Tambopata National Reserve Peru
You will awaken to an Amazonian breakfast. We'll be traveling towards a native community at 8:00 a.m. We will visit an indigenous family of old warriors and hunters noted for their artwork. You can buy one if you wish.

Then we take a journey to a ravine where we will fish. Catfish, damsels, sardines, and piranhas may all be found in the lake.

We'll bring what we catch for lunch to the resort, where our chef will prepare it with traditional seasonings. You will have the afternoon free to rest in the hammocks, and supper will be served at night.

Day 4: Taricaya

On our fourth day of seeing the Reserve, we will see the following flora and wildlife projects:

1. AGROFORESTRY AND CAOBAS PROJECT:
An agroforestry system dedicated to reforestation and sustainable agriculture. Mahogany, cedar, flowers, and exotic fruits may be seen. This initiative aims to give local people with a sustainable option for land usage.

2. TARICAYA RESCUE CENTER: 
A facility where animals are taken in by the local authorities. These animals were taken from individuals who were removing them from the forest. These animals arrive in a rehabilitation program wounded, unwell, or starving. Every attempt is made to reintroduce them to their original environment, so aiding the recovery of indigenous wildlife.

3. OBSERVATION PLATFORMS: 
In 2005, the CANOPY WALKWAY was created. It is a 90-meter suspension bridge erected atop a 300-year-old Lupuna tree (45 m). Being the highest natural viewing point in the forest, it is also utilized as a bird monitoring station.

4. TARICAYA TURTLE PROJECT In 2006, the Turtle Repopulation Project began to rescue this endangered species. Locals collect the eggs for consumption and sale. Between July and September, staff and volunteers harvest the eggs and place them on the Reserve's manmade beaches before releasing the turtles into their natural habitat.

5. BUTTERFLY PROJECT:
The butterfly farm was established in 2010 to teach people about the biology of these species. This initiative is a viable alternative to commercializing animals.

6. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: 
We have been working with different local communities since 2001, including the Juan Pablo Farmers Association and the Palma Real Native Community. We assist them with environmental education and natural resource management initiatives.

Day 5: Macaw Clay Lick

Stop At: Lago Sandoval, Tambopata National Reserve Peru
We will depart from our Lodge AMAZON ECO LODGE PARADISE at 8:30 a.m. We will do a 2 hour tour.

The first hour is spent on an interoceanic highway, followed by a road little traveled to the banks of the Tambopata River. Our driver will be waiting for us here to transport us approximately 30 minutes upriver to our Lodge "COLLPAS TAMBOPATA INN".

We will spot numerous riparian birds, capybaras, and white caimans on our route to the Lodge. During your stay with us, our team will bring you a welcome drink and provide you with a quick overview of all of our services.

COLLPAS TAMBOPATA INN

You will be given a room, after which you can go about to familiarize yourself with the surroundings.

We'll go through a main forest full with thousand-year-old trees after the amaonico meal. Our guide will teach you about the region's most significant economic activities, such as agriculture, mining, logging, Brazil nut or chestnut harvesting, and ecotourism.

You'll be able to see monkeys and other creatures in their natural environment.

At sunset we will take our lanterns to see alligators and capybaras. Maybe you come across a cat by the river at night looking for something to eat.

If you want, we can take a night walk after dinner. Insects, arachnids, tarantulas, and sometimes snakes, armadillos, night monkeys or tapirs will be visible near the Lodge.

Day 6: Tambopata Tour – Puerto Maldonado

Stop At: Lago Sandoval, Tambopata National Reserve Peru
The tour concludes with an early morning departure, after a cup of coffee we will head upriver for about an hour around 5:00am. During the trip, you will be able to watch the sunrise.

The setting is stunning and you might come across a jaguar or anaconda on the shoreline of the Tambopata National Reserve.

When we get at our destination, we will be greeted by a symphony of parrots and macaws. The guide will explain why these birds, as well as many other animals, require clay in their daily diet. This program will keep us entertained from around 6:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. We'll eat a great breakfast in front of the Collpa Chuncho.
Then we shall go to the checkpoint. It has a small museum where you may learn more about the lives of macaws and parrots.

We will return to our hostel for lunch and then we can go to the Quebrada el Gato waterfall. You can take a relaxing bath here. You will know some of the items that are cultivated in this fertile land of Madre de Dios.

We'll take a ride for 20 minutes at daybreak. Then we'll drive back to Puerto Maldonado in our 4X4 for two hours.
