Explore the Makoko community in Lagos, the world’s largest floating village which lives principally on stilt houses on water. Discover Lagos’s own Venice on this guided canoe ride through the watery fishing neighborhood, built on stilts overtop canals.
The area is home to at least 850,000 people, although some estimates indicate closer to 1,000,000 floating city dwellers. Our local tour guide will educate you about the history of the community and why they decided to settle on water. Founded in 1957 by the English archaeologist Kenneth Murray, this national treasure trove houses a splendid collection of Nigerian art that spans the epochs, ranging from elegant statuary to intricate carvings, and from absorbing archaeological finds to ethnographic exhibits.

The New Afrika Shrine is an open air entertainment centre and host location of the annual Felabration music festival. It is the replacement of the old Afrika Shrine created in 1970 by Fela Kuti until it was burnt down in 1977.The New Afrika Shrine showcases music performances by Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti thus making it a tourist attraction. On July 3rd, 2018, French President Emmanuel Macron visited the Shrine and pre-launched the Season of African Cultures 2020 in France. Macron said he had visited the Shrine as a student in 2002.

Before this house was turned to a Museum, the property served as Fela’s residence from 1970 until his death in 1997.
