Authentic Jewish Cooking Class by a Professional chef

Unique culinary experience in Jewish district.

Do you know Rugelach? Have you prepared Challah?
If you are interested in traditional Central-European Jewish cuisine, come and cook together. Learn about the origin of Jewish dishes and drinks as well as their preparation and have a look at how we live in Budapest. I would like to share a lot of interesting family stories with you.

My story: 'My relationship with Jewish people and culture started more than 15 years ago when I got to know my husband. I met him and became part of a modern Jewish family. The main figure of the family is the grandmother whose love for life, attitude and modern way of thinking is an example for me to follow. It was her who taught me the following dishes and I am really grateful to her for introducing me the secrets of Jewish cuisine.'

It includes:
- we make together a traditional 3-course Jewish menu (starter, main course and dessert)
- traditional Jewish dishes (Not kosher)
- homemade flavors
- all the ingredients, kitchen pots and equipment
- cosy atmosphere (Not a basement room)
- my help and guidance (I am a professional chef)
- 4-hour cooking experience with interesting information and stories about the history of Central European Jews as well as about the bustling Jewish life in Budapest
- the family recipes of the dishes in English, which you can take home
- you can taste typical Jewish welcome snack as well
- drinks: Palinka (fruit brandy), 2 dl Hungarian wine, homemade soft drinks, mineral water, tea and coffee
- at the end of the cooking we will eat together and enjoy the result of your efforts

We make the following menu:
Starter: Jewish egg paté with Challah,
Main course: Honey chicken with dried plum and apricot + boiled rice
Dessert: Rugelach (small crescent)

Stop At:

• Flavors of Budapest, Kiraly Street 77. I/17, Budapest 1077 Hungary

Sample Menu

• Jewish egg paté with Challah - Challah is a Jewish braided bread which is served with soft egg cream.
• Honey chicken with dried plum and apricot + boiled rice - This unique main course is made for Rosh Hashanah by Jewish families when they eat honey and other sweets because by this the year will be lucky.
• Rugelach - Rugelach is a Hanukkah dessert. Original recipe was more modest than today’s version because today it is made by cream cheese. You must taste it!
