Let’s climb the Nevado Mateo in just one day. It is one of the amazing ice-capped peaks of the famous Cordillera Blanca. The total altitude of the Nevado Mateo is 5150 meters and its ascent is considered technically easy. This trip can perfectly work as your first climbing experience since you won’t need any technical skill.

However keep in mind that, like in any mountaineering ascent, the climb implies some risks which should not be taken lightly. That is why it is always mandatory, especially for beginners, to do it with a certified mountain guide. I can therefore guarantee that you will enjoy this experience safely.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Huascaran National Park Peru

The day before--you stop by our office in the Hotel Valery to try on your gear (harness, boots, crampons, helmet, and ice axe). Don´t worry, we have a gear list you can request in advance and the market nearby has a lot of affordable outdoor gear if you are missing something. We can also provide pants and jacket if needed. We do not recommend that you drink alcohol the night before and rest as early as possible.

3:00am-3:30am--We will pick you up at your hotel in Huaraz. We pick up from south to north so your pickup time will depend on where your hotel is located. We will work together to determine this information before you arrive. Sometimes there is a wait as all the visitors are collected. We stay in communication via WhatsApp during this time.

2.5 Hours--we will drive north alongside the Cordillera Blanca then turn into Huascarán National Park (you pay 30 soles) and drive up to Punto Olimpia to park (4,736m). There are stunning views along the way and the road is paved but winding. There are not designated bathroom stops but we accommodate our customers. You will need to pack in paper and bag to pack out your trash. We recycle other trash when possible.

In the parking lot we get our gear together. We recommend bringing a morning snack you enjoy.

6:00am--We depart the parking lot and walk alongside the glacial moraine for ~1 hour.
7:00am--We put on our crampons, helmets, harnesses, and join the guides via ropes for safe travel up the glacier.
8:00am--Approx summit time. From the Nevado Mateo Summit we can enjoy the phenomenal view at of Mount Contrahierbas and the Lagunas de Cáncora. Rest, eat, drink, and feel proud.

We depart the summit after a break and travel back down the mountain.

2:30pm--We arrive back in Huaraz. There you can rest and celebrate!

*Sometimes we are back a little later if more time is needed climbing. We try not to rush anyone. Plan accordingly. We are rarely back after 4:00pm.
