From Huaraz: Laguna Churup fullday trek

This is challenging yet a fantastic acclimatization hike affording magnificent panorama views of Huaraz and the landscape around and the imposing peak of the Churup peak. Lake Churup lies at an altitude of 4450m in a big cirque with the snow covered Churup summit in the background. Typical for a cirque lake, its water is extremely clear and has a deep blue color near the edges of the lake.

Itinerary

Stop At: Laguna Churup, Huascaran National Park Peru

Pick up from accommodation in Hauraz around 7:00 am: Pick up from your hotel to transfer us to Pitec. From here we start walking 3 - 4.5 hours to the Churup Lagoon (4450 masl). We drive 1 hour from Huaraz to Pitec (3850m) passing through the traditional villages of Unchus and Llupa. After entering the national park we start ascending by following the path over a long ridge. The final 100m to the lake scrambling up a steep rock gully which some people may find difficult.
In the lake we will take an hour break for lunch and rest. Then we descend the same path to the starting point from where we will see peaks including the highest mountain (Huascaran) and the most beautiful mountain (Alpamayo) of Peru. This is an ideal acclimatization hike to start exploring this beautiful mountain range.
We will return to Huaraz with transportation.
