Bhutan Encompassed Tour encircles the three important cities in Bhutan – Paro, Thimphu and Punakha, exploring it’s art & architecture, traditions & culture. Paro gives you the colorful aspects of Bhutan whereas Thimphu is the tiny capital with many historical and cultural monasteries and shrines. Punakha is the old capital of Bhutan with age old monasteries and extends a good place to learn more about Buddhism. The interesting feature of the tour is the visit to the Taktsang Monastery perched in a vertical cliff which is also popular known as ‘Tiger’s Nest’.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Paro (2250m) - Thimphu (2350m)

Stop At: Paro Airport Bird's Eye View Point, Paro Bhutan
Arrive Paro and clear customs and visa formalities, meet the representatives and the Bhutanese guide.Then drive towards Thimphu (the capital of Bhutan) for about 1 & half hours drive. En-route Thimphu, one can do a short hike to Tamchog Monastery, a private temple owned by the descendants of famous Tibetan bridge – builder Thangthong Gaylpo. Later on continue the drive to Thimphu and visit Buddha point for a stunning view of Thimphu city and Takin Compound. Then continue to Tashi Choe Dzong, Folk Heritage, Centenary Farmers Market, the new authentic craft bazaar.

Paro is the entry and exit point of Bhutan if you are flying in/out of Bhutan.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Thimphu, Thimphu, Thimphu District
Thimphu is the tiny capital of Bhutan.

Folk Heritage Museum – a 300 year old traditional house converted into a museum. (Open Mon-Fri).

Day 2: Thimphu - Punakha (1,310m) via Dochula La (3140m)

Stop At: Punakha, Punakha, Punakha District
After early breakfast, drive towards Punakha for about 3 hours passing along Dochu La Pass at 3140m and reach the highly cultivated valley of Punakha. En-route take a short hike through beautiful rice fields to Chimmi Lhakhang. In the afternoon, visit Punakha Dzong located at the confluence of the Pho-chu and Mo-chu River.

Stop At: Dochula Pass, Thimphu Bhutan
Dochula Pass offers majestic Himalayan panorama of the eastern Himalayas. There are 108 chortens at the pass.

Stop At: Chimi Lhakhang Temple, Punakha Bhutan
Chimi Lhakhang is the fertility temple dedicated to Drukpa Kunley.
Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Punakha Dzong, Punakha 13001 Bhutan
Punakha Dzong is arguably one of the most beautiful monasteries in Bhutan.
Duration: 30 minutes

Day 3: Punakha - Paro (2,250m)

Stop At: Paro, Paro, Paro District
After early breakfast, drive from Punakha to Paro re-crossing Dochula pass and stopping at Thimphu for lunch. Arrive Paro in the afternoon and head out of the tourist trail for a short hike to 15th century Zurig Lhakhang above Paro Dzong overlooking the valley. It offers great views of Ta Dzong (watch Tower) and Paro Rinpung Dzong. En-route, visit the iconic 17th century Paro Rinpung Dzong which means “the fortress of the heap of jewels.” A quick descend arrives at the covered cantilever bridge marked with giant stupas.

Stop At: Dochula Pass, Thimphu Bhutan
Dochula pass is en-route Thimphu to Punakha and commands spectacular Himalayan panorama of the eastern mountains in a clear day.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Ta Dzong Museum, Above the Trongsa Dzong, Trongsa Bhutan
Ta Dzong is the ancient watchtower now converted into a museum.
Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Rinpung Dzong, Paro Bhutan
Paro Rinpung dzong is the center of attraction in Paro.
Duration: 30 minutes

Day 4: Paro - Hike to Taktsang Monastery (3,120m)

Stop At: Paro, Paro, Paro District
Early in the morning, make an excursion to Taktshang Monastery – this has to be the monastery with the most outstanding setting in Bhutan. Set on a vertical cliff face at 2950m above sea level, it defies all engineering logic. For the energetic, hike 2 hours up to get a more dramatic view of the monastery. (The hike demands a certain level of fitness and a pony ride to the monastery can be arranged at additional cost). Just on the outskirts of Paro town, visit Kyichu Lhakang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan and have the opportunity to meet the local villages in a local farm house.
Duration: 10 hours

Stop At: Paro Taktsang, Taktsang Trail, Paro Bhutan
Takstang monastery is the main highlight of any Bhutan tour. The monastery is perched in a vertical hillside defying all engineering logic where it's believed that Guru Padma Sambhava came on a back of a flying tigress from Tibet in the 8th century and meditated here, thus the name 'Tiger's Monastery'

Stop At: Kyichu Lhakhang, Lamgong Gewog, Paro 12001 Bhutan
Kyichu Lhakhang is one of the oldest temple in Bhutan.
Duration: 30 minutes

Day 5: Paro - Depart

Stop At: Paro Airport Bird's Eye View Point, Paro Bhutan
After breakfast, transfer to the airport to catch the onward flight. Bid farewell to the remote and legendary Dragon Kingdom disappearing again behind its guardian mountains.
