Maramures: 2 Days in Rural Romania

A 2 day tour bringing you to the rural region of Maramures, a place with beautiful natural landscapes where traditions such as wood carving have been maintained for generations. You will visit the most important attractions of the region and taste the great local food on offer.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cluj - Surdești - Săpânța - Viseu de Sus

Stop At: Surdesti Wooden Church, Surdesti Romania
On the first day, we will drive over the Carpathian Mountains to arrive in the region of Maramures. Here, we visit the tallest wooden church in Surdesti, before visiting a popular artist from the area.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Merry Cemetery, Sapanta 437305 Romania
In the afternoon we will visit the Merry Cemetery in Săpânța, which comprises over 300 tombstones with paintings cheerfully depicting scenes from the lives of the deceased.
Duration: 2 hours

Day 2: Viseu de Sus - Steam Train - Bogdan Vodă - Cluj-Napoca

Stop At: Mocănița Maramureș, Strada Cerbului 5, Vișeu de Sus 435700, Romania
On the second day we will embark on a breathtaking tour on a steam train, travelling along the secluded, meandering Vaser Valley.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Wooden church of St. Nicholas, Bogdan Voda Romania
In the afternoon you will visit the beautiful wooden church of Bogdan Voda, before we drive back to Cluj.
Duration: 2 hours
