The town has a strong cultural connection with Japanese sake, home to three nationally famous breweries that produce the sacred sake for historic Shiogama Shrine. This foodie tour is all about experiencing the local food and culture of Shiogama through the spirit of Japanese sake. The tour includes both an English lecture on sake appreciation and a delicious sushi lunch!

Learn about the deep connections between sake and the Shinto religion of Japan at Shiogama Shrine; a 1200 year old shrine that is considered the spiritual hub of Shinto in Northern Japan.

Enjoy a workshop of how to best appreciate the different varieties of sake, different ways to drink it and what to look out for when selecting your favourite drop!

Stop At: Urakasumi Sake Brewery, 2-19 Motomachi, Shiogama, Miyagi 985-0052, Japan

Enjoy a tasting session of three seasonal varieties of sake at one of Miyagi Prefectures most famous breweries, Urakasumi Sake Brewery. Urakasumi also provides the 'omiki' or ceremonial sake to Shiogama Shrine.
