Senate Square presents Carl Ludvig Engel's architecture as a unique allegory of political, religious, scientific and commercial powers in the centre of Helsinki, Finland.
Senate Square and its surroundings make up the oldest part of central Helsinki: the Helsinki Cathedral, the Government Palace, the main building of the University of Helsinki and the Sederholm House, the oldest building of central Helsinki dating from 1757.

The Cathedral, by Carl Ludvig Engel, rising on the northern side of the Senate Square is the stage of national and academic festive services and one of the most popular tourist sights. The church is part of Helsinki's Empire era centre and a landmark for those arriving by sea. It has become the symbol of the whole of Helsinki.

Katajanokka is a well-kept secret that only the residents know about. In recent years this area has blossomed into a restaurant hotspot. In the summertime, the terraces on the shoreline form a picturesque summer oasis by the sea.
Until the 19th century, Katajanokka was mainly a shantytown dotted by the occasional storage building here and there. In the early part of the 19th century, several military barracks were built, followed by harbour buildings and a prison. The art nouveau stone buildings constructed in the early 20th century are well-preserved and form an architectural area that is uniquely uniform even by European comparison. These days, Katajanokka's population is around 4,000.

The Old Market Hall in Helsinki has served its customers since 1889.
