Manistee River Canoeing Day Tour
Paddle down northern Michigan’s most exciting river on this guided, full-day canoeing tour. Enjoy the excursion down the Manistee River, widely considered the finest river in the Lower Peninsula, as it flows through scenic, red-sand cliffs strewn with waterfalls. Stop for a swim in select watering holes and enjoy lunch along the banks, as provided by the guide. All required entrance fees are included on this family friendly trip.
Meet the local guide at the Hodenpyl Dam launch south of Mesick and about an hour outside of Manistee, Michigan. Receive some basic paddling instruction, then travel down the river in a durable aluminum canoe. Along the way, pass several waterfalls, swimming holes, and a few fun, minor rapids. Customization is a part of all Crystalaire guiding, and they will help to plan a trip that fits the needs, interests, and the physical stamina of the traveler — plus the weather.
Some of the possibilities include scrambling to the top of the legendary sand cliffs; learning about the local folklore, including traditions of river spirits and the local Dog Man; leaping from a rope swing or low-lying trees; getting spun around in some swimming holes; and/or sunbathing on the grassy river banks.
Lunch will be provided and will include both a healthy travel option and snacks throughout the day. Due to the early end of the trip, dinner is not included, but the guide can provide recommendations and directions to a number of popular food destinations in the area.
