Stop At: Anadolu Medeniyetleri Muzesi, Gozcu Sokak No: 2 Ulus, Ankara 06240 Turkiye

This museum's displays, which begin with an intriguing display of artifacts from the Catal Huyuk site—often referred to as the first known human community in the world—place an unusual emphasis on the earlier invaders of Anatolia. Highlights include a series of tablets whose translations serve as a reminder of how little has changed in the world over the ages.

Stop At: Ankara Castle, Kale Mh., Ankara 06240 Turkiye

Recognized as the emblem of Ankara, the Citadel commands a commanding view of the city. Built by the Hittites or the Phrygians, it is the oldest area of the city, with residents living mostly unchanged from 600 years ago. The area was inhabited prior to 2000 BC.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Roman Baths, Cankiri Ave., Ankara Turkiye

With the renovation done between 1997 and 2001, the ruins of the Roman Bath in Ankara, which span an area of about 65.000 m2, have assumed the look of an outdoor museum. The roughly one thousand stone artifacts found among the remains can be divided into three primary categories: architectural elements, tablets, and burial steles. The majority of the tomb steles from the Roman and Byzantine eras are on display in the southern wing of the Palaestra, while the northern wing features blocks with scriptures, postaments (pedestals), and water pipes; the eastern wing features an altar and other architectural pieces; and the middle section features sarcophagus and lion sculptures.

Stop At: Anitkabir Command Anittepe, Ankara 06570 Turkiye

Ataturk, the creator of the Turkish Republic, a revolutionary, a valiant soldier, a great leader, and a global figure, is eternally resting in this mausoleum. Built in 1953 and completed with a view over Ankara, it was the site of Ataturk's burial in November of that same year.
