This is a self-guided tour and you may travel fully independent to the alpine village Zermatt and to Mt. Gornergrat.

To see the Matterhorn live - it's a must for every Switzerland traveller. Visit the alpine village of Zermatt with it's typical chalet style, surrounded by high alpine peaks, the Matterhorn in face all the time.  On this self-guided tour you discover the car-free alpine village of Zermatt and the Mount Gornergrat, from where you will have all this "postcard" views to the Matterhorn. 

Itinerary

Pass By: Thunersee, Thun Im Berner Oberland Bernese Oberland, Thun 3600 Switzerland

The train passes along the lake Thun, before heading into the "Kander" valley in direction of the Alps

Pass By: Lotschberg Base Tunnel, Between Frutigen, Berne and Raron, Valais, Frutigen 3718 Switzerland

34km long train tunnel, passing the Alps between North and South Switzerland. The train passes with 200km/h the tunnel and finally you arrive in the Canton of Valais.

Stop At: Visp, Visp, Canton of Valais, Swiss Alps

Change point from the Intercity train to the Matterhorn railway company. From Visp on, the narrow gauge train heads direction Zermatt through the "Matter" valley.

Alpine and car free village. Easy accessible and easy orientation in this small village for a independent walk-around

Gornergrat railway station, where the cogwheel train journey to the Gornergrat peak starts
